We have successfully moved “all things Yarny” to our new server environment. We didn’t expect to have to do this for quite some time, but we have seen so many writers signup, and with NaNo just a few days away from starting, we wanted to be doubly sure we used our craft to care for yours. Although we didn’t have any problems with our old setup, this new one provides world-class data security, redundancy, and a whole set of other geeky buzzwords. Stated another way; sleep well. We’re taking great care of your written words.
We’ve continued tinkering with Yarny, as we always will. We have received great feedback, and we want everyone to know we read each one and incorporate your suggestions into our tinkering. So, for this release, affectionally labeled “0.6″ we’ve changed the search, changed the titles, fixed some annoyances, and added title goals.
Now when you search, snippets and groups that meet the search criteria will be displayed. We also show the group that a snippet is in if that snippet meets the search criteria. Further, if you hover over the snippet to expand the preview section, you’ll see the found text is highlighted, so you can see it in context.
Seems some writers were not aware that they could save multiple titles. In Yarny, you can create as many titles as you want. (By the way, this will always be a free feature, so, really, create as many as you want). To make this more visible, you’ll now see a little dropdown arrow next to the title. Click the title and a drop down will appear showing all of your titles and at the top of the drop down is the selection to create a new title. When you move the cursor near the current title, a sprocket icon will appear. Click the sprocket to edit the title and to set the word count goal for the title. Read on.
Now you can set the word count goal for each title (um, like 50,000). Do this by clicking the sprocket next to the current title. You don’t have to set a goal if you would rather not, but it’s there if you do rather. Once you set a goal, a goal bar will appear above our Story snippet list showing your progress. Also, if you don’t want to count all of your Story snippets in the goal, add a tag to those snippets you do want counted. When you filter on that tag, the word count will adjust to show just those tagged snippets. If that’s too confusing, blame it on my writing and just enjoy the goals. You’ll figure it out as you use them.

We have a whole host of features we’re working on, some you’ll see shortly and some will take a little longer. For example, while you are busy writing in November, we’ll be using some magic to make Yarny work offline in your browser as well as it does online. Pretty cool stuff actually, but that’s my geek side showing through again. We sincerely hope our scheduled move didn’t inconvenience you too much. If you have any trouble, try logging out, refreshing your browser, and logging back in. That will load the new version of Yarny. We don’t plan on doing this again for a **very** long time. Thanks for the kind words we have received and continue to receive. Keep the feedback coming. Love, The Yarny Team
